John utilizes he/him pronouns and is a State of Kansas Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor.  John is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of Texas and Colorado. He has completed the Psychedelic Assisted Therapy Certificate through Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. He is also completing an America Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) Sex Therapy Certification.  He is an independent practitioner at The Therapy Center Eastside Office.  John has over 15 years of experience providing psychotherapy and assessments to people of all ages.  His current practice is focused on working with adults of any age to achieve and exceed their personal goals.  John has a passion for working with marginalized populations and proudly stands as an ally to LGBTQIA+ populations. He is kink informed and supportive of all consensual and loving relationships. John employs a validating, nonjudgmental, and collaborative approach to create genuine connections.  He is passionate about joining with individuals and helping them to build on their strengths, reconnect to their self and intuition, heal from their past, find peace in the present, and establish new skills to create a preferred future.

John utilizes multiple evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Brief Solution Focused Based Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Trauma Informed Care.  He is also able to provide Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) for appropriate clients. John individualizes his approach to meet the needs and goals of each client.  John has experience and is honored to work with individuals who are struggling with depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress, self-injury, suicidal ideation, gender and sexuality issues, phase of life issues, religious trauma, transitional stress, phobias, addictions, and personality disorders.  He has specific interest and expertise in treating and resolving complex childhood trauma and the related symptoms of dissociation, flashbacks, nightmares, and hypervigilance.  John has been described by others as approachable, patient, sincere, calm, funny, and empathetic.

John began his work in the mental health field as an attendant care worker at Prairie View in Newton, Kansas.  He earned his undergraduate degree in Social Work from Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas and focused his work on children and families.  After John earned his Master of Social Work degree at Newman University, he began working for COMCARE of Sedgwick County where he served in various roles, most recently as a crisis clinician in their Community Crisis Center.  John also has experience as a marriage educator, resource parent trainer, adjunct social work professor, practicum field supervisor, and Emergency Department LSCSW at Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph.

John is married to Joanna (who is an excellent therapist as well) and together they are raising two wonderful children.  John enjoys spending time with his family, creating with his hands, and caring for plants. He is a lifelong learner
