Catherine M. Baggett, Psy.D. is a State of Kansas Licensed Psychologist and an independent practitioner. She provides psychological assessment and psychotherapy for adults and older adolescents. She is trained in several evidence-based therapies, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). She has experience treating individuals dealing with a variety of concerns, including mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, personality disorders, chronic suicidality and severe and persistent mental illness.
Dr. Baggett received her Doctorate from Wright State University in Dayton, OH. Before moving to Wichita she worked for 5 years on an adult inpatient unit of a state psychiatric hospital in upstate New York. Before joining The Therapy Center, she worked for 5 years at the Mental Health Clinic on McConnell AFB providing therapy and evaluations for Active Duty Service Members.
One of Dr. Baggett’s passions is treating individuals who are excessively emotionally overcontrolled or undercontrolled. Individuals who are undercontrolled tend to be impulsive, with easily triggered, intense emotions that can be painful and very difficult to manage. Overcontrolled individuals, on the other hand, tend to be highly rule-governed and rigid in their thinking and behavior. Being on either extreme of this spectrum can contribute to chronic, treatment-resistant depression or anxiety, eating disorders, personality disorders, relational problems and other issues. Dr. Baggett is trained in two types of therapy that are effective for individuals on both ends of the spectrum.
Dr. Baggett lives in the Wichita area with her husband, their daughter, their golden retriever Sam and cat Ragamuffin. She is glad to live in a less snowy location than upstate New York. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and hiking.
